2015 Rockwell Easter Egg hunt

04/05/2015. It's Easter again, so we're at Rockwell to join in on the Easter Egg hunt. This year's theme is BlockVille. It's a cross between lego blocks and construction theme.

The event starts at 9am but we managed to arrive a little bit past 8am. We had to wait awhile, but kids and their parents started to troop in.

After the registration, kids were given canvas bags instead of pails or cans to put in their treats. Kids were divided into two groups, 0-6 year olds, and 7-12 year olds.

Thirdy was in the first batch of the 0-6 year olds, so we were first to try out the activities.

I didn't get to take pictures of the signs for each of the activities, but the first one was a variation of the horseshoes game. Instead of horse shoes, you used hoops in the shape of cogs (due to the construction theme) and the stakes were replaced with traffic cones. So you have to fling the cog onto the cones. Of course the kids are too small for the cogs, so they just walked towards the cones and placed the cogs onto them.

Next was a puzzle, where the kids put it together.

Last was a mini maze where the kids ran through ala maze runner.

I told Thirdy to go for the cheetos!

After completing each activity, kids were given treats from big clay vases.

Getting ready for the hunt!

The egg hunt was over at the side entrance of the tent, so the entire group of kids went there. After being given the signal, everyone rushed over and started to look for eggs. Thirdy managed to pick up two, while Chea picked up another one. She dropped it though and had to bully a kid who picked it up to hand it over. Eh. Moms.

I kinda felt that there were too few eggs around. I don't think all of the kids managed to get one. They should have put more.

Afterwards, we went into the tent and looked for the activities inside.

There was an area for box constructions where you assembled cardboard cut outs into small figures, and decorated boxes.

In another area, you painted cookies.

And then there was face painting.

This year, they didn't have photobooths or video booths, but there was a guy going around taking pictures of everyone, and you could get your hard copy print after the event.

As for the entertainment, there was only two. The Mad scientists and some acrobats. The acrobats were the last performance. They made a lot of flips and somersaults using hoops, and some balancing acts. They were pretty good too.

Mad Science!

But the best entertainment was of course the Mad Science group since you don't see them outside of very expensive birthday parties. Lol. Chea attended a birthday party with them once. I never got to see them that time so this was my first.

Their first experiment was with water. They played around with cups with water, making the kids guess which one was filled with water and tried to dump it on a volunteer. But they filled it with a chemical that solidified the water instantaneously, so the volunteer didn't end up getting wet.

The second experiment was with floating balls. They first floated a ping pong ball with a hair dryer. Then they floated a beach ball with a leaf blower.

The third experiment was with vortices, the same thing that happens when you flush water, that it looks like a small hurricane. They showed it using two PET bottles tied mouth to mouth, with the water being transferred from one bottle to the other by tipping it over. Later, they recreated it with a big drum with one end covered by a flexible material and the other with a small hole. So it's like having a big drum (the instrument), with a gust of wind coming out at the hold, every time you hit the drum.

They later put smoke in the drum, and started shooting out smoke rings, everytime they beat on the drums, so you could see the air rings being generated.

Finally, they attached the leaf blower on a round platform and made a hovercraft. Kids rode it and they even got a dad to try it out.

It was a pretty fun experience.

The event finished by 12pm so we headed to Powerplant mall to have lunch. There was a lego display so Thirdy played a bit.

After that, we decided to eat at Via Mare.

And another one!

We went around again took a few pictures, and then decided to go home.
